Atea powers sustainable IT with cPPA:
"We can walk the talk"

Leading IT infrastructure provider Atea is actively contributing to Denmark's energy transition. While ensuring that their power consumption aligns with their ambitious sustainability goals, Atea brings more renewable energy into the grid in a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (cPPA) agreement.

In the quiet Danish town of Broby on Lolland, a solar park is silently, steadily generating energy from the sky. This isn't just any solar park; it's a testament to a commitment to genuine sustainability, powering the operations of Atea and setting an example of how businesses can truly ’walk the talk’ in the energy transition.

As a frontrunner in sustainable IT, it’s not enough for Atea to just switch to an existing renewable source; it's about additionality – actively fostering the development of new renewable energy capacity to the grid.

“We don't just want to consume what's already being produced. We want to actively contribute to creating more green electricity in the grid.

With this cPPA, we can physically document exactly where our power comes from, knowing that what we report is not just something on paper. It’s not just green electricity certificates, which can feel a bit like pseudo-sustainability, it’s ‘walking the talk’," says Jonas Holm Andersen, Facility Management Consultant in Atea.

This particular solar park, part of a pool cPPA, holds an extra layer of significance: it's built on exhausted agricultural land, a choice that respects biodiversity in its construction, which has been important to Atea.

While the cPPA provides the benefit of a fixed price for 10 years, offering welcome budgetary certainty in a volatile geopolitical landscape, cost savings were not the primary driver for Atea.

As the leading supplier of IT infrastructure in the Nordic and Baltic regions and owner of multiple data centers in a time with explosive increases in power consumption, it has been key to take concrete steps towards a more sustainable industry and society.

Beyond the cPPA, Atea is highly ambitious in reducing its overall power consumption, demonstrating an approach to sustainability that encompasses both sourcing and efficiency.

A “perfect partnership” for sustainability

"I can say with my hand on my heart, this collaboration is perfect. We truly feel we have an advisor serving our best interest, not a salesperson. We are experts in consuming electricity, and they are experts in sourcing electricity in the right way. They are very proactive in their advice, and if we have the slightest doubts about anything, they clarify it immediately," says Jonas Holm Andersen.

Mind Energy has guided Atea every step of the way. This includes advising on the right cPPA location and setup, managing the power delivery according to Atea's needs, handling everything around settlement and – very importantly – all necessary documentation for reporting.

Mind Energy provides all the documentation for Atea’s annual report, which not only demonstrates compliance with targets and regulations but also shows stakeholders that Atea is taking real action to the benefit of their clients and society.

“Every year, we receive documentation for our reporting that is always in order; our auditors approve it in one minute. We can see that we spend much longer on our other certificates. The monthly reporting is tailored to the information we need, and it's always exactly right," says Jonas Holm Andersen.

The collaboration with and advice from Mind Energy covers Denmark but have also set footprints abroad, as the collaboration has been adopted as best practice for energy agreements in other countries where Atea operates.

The cPPA agreement is one of many sustainability commitments that are underscored by Atea’s consistent recognition for environmental leadership. EcoVadis has placed them in the top 1% of over 150,000 assessed companies and in 2025, Atea was recognised as the most sustainable company globally within the IT Services Industry by the Global 100 Index for the fourth consecutive year.
