Life at Mind Energy

Working as one

Here, you’ll meet some of the people who shape Mind Energy every day - and get a glimpse of how they work, what drives them, and why they chose to grow with us. We work across desks, disciplines and borders, because that's how the best ideas are shaped.

Our strength lies in the way we connect. In how we share knowledge, challenge perspectives and combine our skills to create smarter solutions.

Whether you're part of a trading team, developing tech, or supporting the business, you’ll never work in a silo. We collaborate openly, solve problems together and make each other better along the way.

Freja Borgaard Nielsen, Backoffice Data Specialist

Tell us about your journey into Mind Energy

My education is in physics and astronomy, which is quite different from my colleagues. But I have a strong fascination with data and programming – the ability to oversee and automate many data sources. This passion is something I can really explore here. The energy sector is incredibly complex, and as an energy trader, we handle incredible amounts of data. I work on both smaller optimisation projects, where we replace manual processes, and larger data management projects that require more hardcore coding.

When you describe Mind Energy to others, what do you emphasise?

There's a very clear focus on our well-being. Ensuring that we’re happy when we go to work. This is clear in the many small things, like investments in our physical environment, a great canteen, and a lot of social events. A lot of changes are happening now, and my team is heavily involved in the digital foundation for this transformation. Yet, our well-being is not compromised.

Having been here for six months, how were you welcomed?

With open arms. My background is quite unique, and it has been met with great curiosity from my colleagues. I was quickly given the opportunity to contribute with the skills I bring to the table. People are genuinely interested in learning from each other, and there's a joint drive to always improve and move forward. When I go to colleagues with a need or share that we can now automate that task they’ve been responsible for, the response is always positive.

Thor Nygaard Jensen, Junior Gas Trader

What's a typical day like for a gas trader?
We're on a shift rotation, so we're covering the market 24/7 – days, nights, and weekends. If I'm on the early bird shift, I'm diving straight into what's happened overnight and making our strategy for the day. That means checking the weather forecasts with the meteorologist, keeping an eye on temperature swings across Europe, catching up on any major political news, figuring out where we want to move gas to and from and at what buy and sell price points. It's all about spotting trends and opportunities before they happen. Then, it's about getting the team up to speed on the strategy, and we're off to another high-speed trading day."

When does it feel like a really good day?
When you nail the day's strategy, and our positions play out just like we planned. But those days when something unexpected happens, and we change our trade strategy extremely fast, those are awesome too. Could be the announcement of a big geopolitical negotiation or a sudden policy change in one country that sends ripples across exchanges in other markets. We're always thinking through different scenarios, ready to act when they happen.

What skills are essential for being a trader?
We've got a really diverse team here – business graduates like me, people with math and economy backgrounds and even a former professional League of Legends gamer. Everyone brings something unique; some are very analytical, some have extremely fast fingers on the keyboard. You can learn most, but you've got to have a thing for numbers, an analytical mind that connects the dots, and a passion for a fast-paced game where anything can change in an instant.

Pia Iversen, Project Manager

Which competencies are important as a project manager?
Curiosity, definitely. I’m involved in many projects, big and small, and they all start with me trying to really understand the problems we need to solve. And that means asking a lot of curious questions to our internal stakeholders. If they've got their eye on a specific new IT system, for example, we’ll take a step back and explore if that’s the absolute best solution for their needs.

Plus, in a job with so much stakeholder management, it really helps to enjoy building relationships with people from all sorts of backgrounds and roles, from leaders to specialists.

What's great about working in Mind Energy?
You don't feel like just another resource here. You feel like a person with unique skills and qualities that matter to the company. There's this sense of care. It's clear that top management cares about our well-being and growth. And there's a lot of opportunities to make an impact. If you have specific knowledge or a good idea to share, people listen.

Tell us about an exciting project you’re involved in
As project manager, I'm also deeply involved in crisis management and strengthening our cyber and information security further. With the increasing cyber threats, security is high on the agenda everywhere, and it definitely is here at Mind Energy. When our CEO started a year and a half ago, she was already asking my leader in her first week, where we were on cyber and information security? It's very motivating for me that something I'm professionally passionate about is also a top priority for leadership.

Rami Jibreel, Senior Software Developer

Why do you like working at Mind Energy?
The freedom and trust here are high. I'm in control of my own tasks, and no one's telling me how or when I should put in my hours.

But honestly, the best part is my colleagues. They've become real friends, and that's incredibly valuable for how we work together. We're direct in our communication, even when we disagree, and that makes our solutions so much better and faster. Here's a quick story that sums up the culture well: one quiet Friday last summer, I brought my PlayStation to work. We were having a great time competing and then asked our team lead if we could get a ‘teambuilding PlayStation’ for the office. “Sure, why not!”

How do you feel you make a difference?
I work in our Market Trading business, helping the traders do their jobs more efficiently with software solutions. We're always looking for ways technology can optimise and assist. Sometimes, my team and I spot opportunities just by observing the traders – we have close communication. I could say something like “that manual data process you're doing, we can build an automated digital solution for that.” It's great when I can directly create value for my colleagues like that.
